Former Arizona GOP Governor-elect Kari Lake took home an online straw poll for the Republican vice-presidential nominee at the Conservative Action Political Conference (CPAC) this weekend.
Out of a field that included 28 , Lake was the winner with 20% of the votes and beat the former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley and Florida Governor. Ron DeSantis. DeSantis got 14,04% of votes and Haley who announced her candidacy for the White House last month, got 10 percent of the vote.
Lake she was the featured keynote speaker for CPAC’s Ronald Reagan Dinner over the weekend, is refusing to accept the loss she suffered in the race for governor in November, and is challenging outcomes of the election in the courts.
Her official Twitter account for the campaign has responded on the CPAC straw poll by suggesting that she’d not be able to fulfill her duties in the position.
“We’re flattered, but unfortunately our legal team says the Constitution won’t allow for her to serve as Governor and VP at the same time,” it read.
Former Secretary of state Mike Pompeo and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy who has announced his presidential campaign both received just six per cent of votes. The other Republicans included in the field which includes senator. Ted Cruz (Texas) and former Vice President Mike Pence, did not get more than five percent.
Former President Trump was able to win The CPAC straw poll to win the presidency, winning an impressive 62 percent turnout While DeSantis finished second with 20 percent of votes.
