Sandown’s eyesore hotel – The Ocean Hotel – has been broken into again with emergency services finding 2 people living in the derelict ruins.
This latest incident is just the most recent in the long ongoing catalogue of break-ins and anti-social behaviour that the hotel has fallen victim to, with its owners being warned multiple times in the past 6-months about the state of the empty site.
This afternoon (Saturday), barriers that were blocking the entrance to the Hotel on the town’s High Street, had been knocked over – laying sprawled all over the floor.
One local noticed the barriers had been pushed aside and re-erected them before alerting the emergency services.
Officers from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called to assist in ascertaining if the building was safe and free from trespassers. A single ambulance crew was also in attendance.
During their inspection they found that there were in fact 2 people squatting inside the property.
Police have been informed of the incident.
