AFTER COMPLAINTS, APPLICATION TO HOLD EVENTS AT EASTERN GARDENS ALL YEAR LONG WAS WITHDRAWED.

An application to hold events near Ryde Marina all year round has been withdrawn due to local residents’ concerns.

Ryde Town Council (RTC) wanted a premises licence allowing them to play films, live and recorded music and hold dance performances, Monday to Sunday, 09:00 to 23:00, at Eastern Gardens 365 days a year.

The most recent event held at the site was Island’s got Talent earlier this month.

The application had been met with concern by some residents, however, who feared it could lead to an increase in noisy events. They said it would allow events to take place every day of the year until late at night, causing continued disturbances.

RTC had however tried to allay the uneasiness around the application and Eastern Gardens becoming a ’24/7 365-day party venue’ saying that was not the case.

Taking to social media, it said:

“If you are hoping for a local, responsible, inclusive and properly-managed approach to Eastern Gardens that takes into account local needs and creates a positive image then you are in luck.”

However, following a meeting between the town council and residents of The Strand, the application has been withdrawn.

RTC has not yet decided whether it will reapply for the licence.

A spokesperson for the council said they had been advised most of the activities they had planned for Eastern Gardens can go ahead without a premises licence.

The town council has recently taken on a 125-year lease of Eastern Gardens from the Isle of Wight Council. An update on the application is scheduled to be given at the next Ryde Town Council meeting on Monday (5th September).
